Maternal & Child Skin Health: A Resource

Healthcare professionals are frequently presented with babies and young children with skin health problems. Many mothers also have skin or hair issues as a result of becoming a mother.

"Most common amongst these are nappy rash, atopic dermatitis (eczema), mild soborrhoeic dermatitis or cradle cap. Birthmarks are also very common with more than 50% of children under the age of one having a salmon patch, 10% having some form of haemangioma, more than 15% having a mongolian spot and up to 10% having a congenital melanocytic naevus (mole)." This Resource been prepared to assist maternal & child health nurses, GPs and pharmacists in the diagnosis and management of these very common skin health problems.

It has been developed by a team of consultant dermatologists with sub-specialty interests in neo-natal skin health and the common skin conditions experienced by mothers.  They have all been acknowledged in the Contributors section.
